![]() His dragon, Vaedax, may have been one of the few things that has kept Lord Maegon alive. While his abilities stood his house in good stead, and a favourable future, his lack of political finesse meant his game playing was often open and plain, meaning those who did not seek favour with the Hand, often worked against him. Instead he spent his diligence bartering a number of favourable matrilineal marriages for his daughters and marrying others to power lords and even the late King Daegar, a marriage he arranged at the start of his ‘reign’ as hand. Lord Maegon was in addition a recluse, a shy man whose while authoritative was not one to socialise and had few if any real friends. Lord Maegon’s diligence did not restrain itself to the bedroom however, a hardworking and authoritative man according to his friends and a crafty and arbitrary schemer according to his enemies, Maegon is adept with the word of the law and the logistics of getting around it. A match that would prove fortuitous as their just natures would cause them to have a friendly relationship, better than some royal marriages though not like that of Jaeherys and Alysanne or Rhaenys and Corlys.įounder of the Targaryen cadet house Fyreblood, Lord Maegon was a stout man, a bastard of King Daemon ‘the One-Eyed’, he was as prolific as his father, being blessed eight daughters and a single son, though some may say cursed instead. ![]() In spite of the opinions of the lords of the realm Aemon married suitably, marrying the lady Ameria Hightower. The widespread disdain of his grandfather was carried down to him, but it was not just just disdain of his paternal grandfather that spurred the high lords of Westeros against the young King, but hatred of his maternal grandfather too. A competent commander and rider of the dragon Zaegossos, nicknamed by the small folk ‘The Scarlet Ghost’, Aemon initially shaped up to be seem potentially a competent and wise king. Aemon was initially by all accounts a kind and humble man, trained by Ser James Leavy, master of arms to his grandfather and later Aemon himself. Daegar would however suffer from permanent burn scars along his neck and jaw, leaving him often in Ill health.Īemon would sit the throne the day his father died, believing peacefully that his accession to the throne and his rule would be one of peace. At the ambush of the Demon road, Daegar and Maexys threw down Vaela and her dragon Raeliphax while Vaena Velayron atop Viserion and Lord Commander Viserys Targaryen on Saegon would decimate Vaela’s force. Daegar’s hand and bastard uncle Lord Maegon Fyreblood predicted this and devised a plan to stop Daegar’s errant cousin in her tracks. She would attempt to match her force to Draconys and then Volantis, and use it as a base to launch her attack on the rest of the realm. Her time studying those beyond the Wall had left her a firm believer in the Old Gods, using methods of worsip she observed the Wildlings performing she had become heretical even in the eyes of the northerners. Trouble is little Vaela had little support. There she gathered an army some 10,000 strong and made bear her intention to sit the throne and reinstate the proper order of things to the realm. The first threat to reign would come in 392 AC, when his cousin Vaela Targaryen, fled the realm with several minor lords to Ghiscar. ![]() His vassals grew discontent with his focus on his family and his use of the royal coffers to fund the construction of castles for his growing House and its cadet branches to reside in. This victory would start Daegar’s reign in respect this boon would soon turn sour. How Daegar defeated this threat can be found in the works of Grand Maester Athelwane, such as the Century of the Fyre, a history of 298 AC to 402 AC. Daegar would go on to repel the Sunlanders, ridding the world of most of their dragons and his family claiming those that remained.
